Ben Carson: Think Big
Dr. Ben Carson is a renowned American neurosurgeon, author, and politician. Born on September 18, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, he overcame significant challenges in his youth to become a leading figure in medicine and public service. As the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, he led the first successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head in 1987 and pioneered techniques like hemispherectomy to treat severe epilepsy. Beyond medicine, Dr. Carson authored several books, including his autobiography Gifted Hands, which was later adapted into a television film starring Cuba Gooding Jr. After retiring from medicine in 2013, he pursued a political career, running as a candidate in the 2016 Republican primaries before serving as the 17th U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021.
