With this program, we honour all doctors on the front lines of the Covid-19 crisis around the world. Dr Semmelweis was a Hungarian doctor. He is a forgotten hero of medicine, who discovered that the simple act of hand-washing is a critical way to prevent the spread of germs. Described as the “saviour of mothers”, Semmelweis discovered that the incidence of childbed fever could be drastically cut if doctors washed their hands before delivering babies in maternity wards. However, he was ridiculed and persecuted for his discovery and died an outcast. Don’t miss this incredible program. It airs this Sunday, 31 May, at 8:30am across Australia.
