People need hope. We all do. Without hope the human spirit withers and dies, but infused with hope it flourishes. The Bible is a book about hope. It presents some of the best news the world has ever heard. The Bible outlines the good news of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and it is this story that gives us hope for the future. Not only is the good news of Jesus about salvation and forgiveness from sin, both past and present, it is also about the hope of living in a world that will one day be completely free of all traces of sin and death. The Bible tells us that Jesus is coming soon and that when He does He will wipe away all tears from our eyes. The Bible gives us the promise of a new heaven and a new earth washed clean of every taint of sickness, suffering and death. While the Bible describes the nearness of Jesus’ coming, it also gives us a picture of how Jesus will come back. As important as it is to know that Jesus is coming soon it is equally important to know how He will come so we can be ready. So what does the Bible say about the manner of Jesus’ coming? Let’s look at 9 simple Bible facts that describe what we can expect to see and hear when Jesus comes. Fact number 1. Jesus has promised to come again. The Bible says: “You believe in God, believe also in Me. . . . I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go . . . I will come again and receive you to Myself.” John 14:1-3. Fact number 2. Bible prophets have predicted the manner of Jesus’ Second coming throughout the centuries. The Bible says: “Now Enoch … prophesied … saying, ‘Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints.” Jude 14. In Psalms, David adds, “Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent.” Psalm 50:3. Fact number 3. Jesus’ Second Coming will be a real, literal event. The Bible says: “While they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked . . . two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, … ‘This same Jesus … will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1: 9-11. Just as Jesus ascension to heaven was a real, historically documented event, His return will be a real, literal event. Fact number 4. Jesus’ Second Coming will be clearly visible. The Bible says: “For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. … They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:27-30. Fact number 5. Every eye will witness Jesus’ Second Coming. The Bible says: “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.” Revelation 1: 7. Fact number 6. Jesus’ coming will not be a secret event. The Bible says: “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Christ will come with a “great sound of a trumpet.” Matthew 24:31 Fact number 7. The Bible warns us not to believe those who say that Jesus’ coming will be a secret event. The Bible says: “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it … If they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.” Matthew 24:23-26. Fact number 8. Those who have a saving relationship with Jesus will rejoice at His coming. The Bible says: “And it will be said in that day: ‘Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.’” Isaiah 25:9 Fact number 9. Those who do not have a saving relationship with Jesus will hide themselves from Him. The Bible says: “Then the sky receded as a scroll … And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men …hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks … and said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne.’” Revelation 6:14-16.
