Graffiti! You find it in cities, on walls, bridges, trains, buildings and even the footpath. But not everyone appreciates it. Graffiti is a form of urban expression and art. Have you ever heard of the greatest graffiti artist the city of Sydney has ever had?

His work isn’t temporary. It will last forever. It’s so unique that it’s even been preserved in the National Museum of Australia. But who could this unsung hero be? Well, he rose from Sydney’s underbelly to overcome a life of rejection, alcohol and crime. He’s an Aussie battler who became a legend.

For more than a quarter of a century, his shadowy, elusive figure roamed the streets of Sydney in the darkness before dawn, unseen and unknown. He left a mysterious message written on the pavements of the city that the city workers would find in the morning rush hour. Who was he? And why did he do it? And what was the meaning of his cryptic message?

Well, for many years it was one of Sydney’s biggest mysteries. Who was writing in chalk, this one word, Eternity on the footpaths every morning? In fact, it was written about half a million times on the sidewalks of the city.

This one word had made such a big impact on Arthur Stace’s life that he wanted to share it with everyone. Just one word, Eternity. It’s a message of hope. It’s a message that dramatically transformed the life of Arthur Stace and he wanted to share it with others so they could also find the same eternal hope in God.

And so, on the first of January, in the year 2000, right at the beginning of the new millennium, the people of Sydney and the world marvelled at the sight of the southern skies ablaze with colour. And then as the fireworks faded, through the haze, appeared emblazoned on the harbour bridge the word, Eternity.

That one word delivered the message of Eternity to the millions of people watching. But what does it really mean? Well, the Bible says that: (He) God has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; Ecclesiastes 3:11

Perhaps like Arthur, you’re feeling trapped in an endless cycle of addictions, toxic relationships, illness, and disappointment. Or perhaps it’s an emptiness you feel. Perhaps there’s just something in you that cries out for more out of life. Perhaps you are asking what is the meaning of life? What is its purpose?

We all ask those questions and God has the answer. You were made or created by God for eternity too. You are special to Him. God has a place in your heart that no-one or nothing else can fill. You have a longing for eternity that only God can satisfy.

God wants you to spend eternity with Him.
