Jesus had just asked a rich man to leave everything he had and follow him. That’s why Peter says to Jesus, “We have left everything to follow you. ”Jesus’ answer is a powerful one. He assures the disciples that there will never be any loss in following him. He says that whatever apparent value anyone leaves behind to follow him will be repaid a hundred times in this present age. And then you shouldn’t miss what he adds. He says, “along with persecutions.” In other words, anyone who chooses to follow Jesus can expect hardship and persecution in this life. But how his life will be enriched here and now will far exceed the cost. *E. And that’s not the end of the rewards, according to Jesus. He says that we will also inherit eternal life in the age to come. “Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.” – Mark 10:28-31
